THIS IS THE ITINERARY OF THE MOST POPULAR 3-DAY MARRAKECH TO MERZOUGA DESERT TRIP :

DAY 1 :MARRAKECH – ATLAS MOUNTAINS – KASBAH AIT BEN HADOU – DADES VALLEY

Your 3-day desert trip from Marrakech to Merzouga on a budget will begin early in the morning with a drive east of Marrakech through small suburban towns to the High Atlas Mountains. A few picture stops, as well as stops to stretch your legs and drink a cup of coffee, will be made.

Until reaching Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, the first big stop for sightseeing today, drive uphill on curvy roads to the popular Tizi Ntichka pass. The UNESCO-listed Berber fortified village of Ait Ben Haddou is also well-known as a filming location for major Hollywood epics, including Kingdom of Heaven, Lawrence of Arabia, and Gladiator, to name a few. Cross the river that separates the Kasbah from the main road and take your time exploring the village. If you want to employ a local guide, you can do so right on the spot.

Continue to Dades Valley after a leisurely lunch at one of the local cafes, passing through Ouarzazate, Skoura Oasis, and Klaa Mgouna, the capital of the Valley of the Roses and popular for its artisanal rose water distillation factories.

When you arrive in Boumalne Dades, take a small road to Dades Canyons along the Dades River, passing by various fortified Kasbahs along the way. Late in the afternoon, you will arrive at your hotel.

At your Dades hotel, you’ll have dinner and spend the night.

DAY 2 : DADES VALLEY – TINGHIR – MERZOUGA – SAHARA DESERT

Our journey today will begin after breakfast at your hotel in Dades Valley with a drive along the 1001 Kasbahs road to the oasis of Tighir, where we will deviate to a minor road driving along the river to Todgha, where you will pause for a walk in the oasis under the shade of palm trees before continuing to the Todgha Gorges.

After some free time to take in the vastness of the cliffs and lunch at a nearby café (at leisure), we depart early in the afternoon for Rissani, which is known for its dates market and was once the starting point for ancient trading caravans crossing the Sahara desert to Tomboctou. We’ll continue to Merzouga after a quick pit stop, passing through some rocky desert terrain.

Feel free to take a swim in the freshening pool at Palais Des Dunes Lodge before setting out on your sunset desert trek to the camp.

Meet our camel caravan and ride your camels through the incredible color-changing sand dunes against the backdrop of the sunset. Before dark, we arrive at our Sahara desert camp.

Prepare for a Moroccan dinner served under the stars next to the campfire after some time to admire the sand dunes and surrounding landscapes. Your local nomad hosts will serenade you with their drums late at night.
